How to check in with a friend who has anxiety
Do you have a friend who struggles with anxiety? Here are some tips to help!
Check up on your friend. Text/Email/Call
If you know their love language, show them you love them with that particular language.
It is important to check in but not to be overwhelming. Let your friend know there’s not a need to respond if they don’t want to. No pressure. Sometimes texting a lot or being in constant communication can be overwhelming for those who struggle with anxiety.
As friends, we need to be mindful of the words we choose as well as the time of day that we choose to text them.
Telling your friend to stop worrying DOES NOT work.
Let them know you are a safe place and can reach out whenever they need it.
Example: If my friend is worried about an upcoming event, whether it's a meeting or a difficult conversation, I will text them encouraging/positive quotes or ask them to come up with some positive statements they can say to themselves.
